Notice - Campfire Ban

Campfires Banned at Horne Lake Regional Park
and Descanso Bay Regional Park Campgrounds

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is enacting a campfire ban at both Horne Lake Regional Park and Descanso Bay Regional Park campgrounds. The ban will take effect at noon on Wednesday, July 18. Use of CSA or ULC approved propane cooking stoves, barbeques and portable fire pits is still allowed at the campgrounds.

In addition, the RDN is placing a smoking ban at all RDN-managed community and regional parks and trails to take effect at noon on Wednesday, July 18.

The public is reminded that outside of the two designated RDN campgrounds, fires of any kind are always prohibited in RDN regional and community parks and trails.

This action is in keeping with the campfire ban directive recently released by the Province of British Columbia for the Coastal Fire Centre and is due to increased daily temperatures with no precipitation in the immediate forecast. Please play safe and help protect our forests.

To report a wildfire call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on most cellular networks.
