Lighthouse Country Regional Trail
Take a step away from the beach and walk, run or ride the north and south loops of the Lighthouse Country Regional Trail (LCRT) located in Bowser and Qualicum Bay. The level grade and connection to more trails in the surrounding Crown forest and Wilson Family Woodlot make it easy for everyone to get out and get active while enjoying the beauty of our rare Coastal Douglas-fir forest.Work on the LCRT began in the late 1990s when stalwart Lighthouse trail volunteers helped blaze over 5 km of route along undeveloped road allowance on the inland side of the E&N railway. Today, the North Loop and adjacent Wildwood Community Park provide about 2 km of easy wandering, while the South Loop offers everything from finished wheelchair accessible trail to woodlot road and rough trail experiences.
The finished South Loop trail begins at the accessible parking lot with toilet and kiosk off Lioness Blvd in Qualicum Bay, next door to the Lions Community Park and Lighthouse Community Centre. Walkers, rollers, runners and cyclists can head off on over 2.5 km of wheelchair accessible trail winding through beautiful forest. Along the way, enjoy benches, picnic table, wood carvings, and a continuous tapping rail for the visually or balance impaired. And there's another toilet at the end. Equestrians, walkers, runners and cyclists can enjoy the rest of the South Loop and explore more trail on adjacent Crown lands.
