Fire Departments

Fifteen fire departments operate 23 fire halls throughout the RDN, providing fire protection for all four municipalities and most unincorporated areas. Nine of these fire departments are administered and financed by municipalities and improvement districts, and operate independently of the RDN. The remaining six fire departments are volunteer fire department societies. These societies provide fire protection and emergency response services in Electoral Areas C, E, F, portions of Electoral Area G and portions of Electoral Area H. The RDN collects property taxes for these fire departments, and provides financing for their operations and capital expenses. The volunteer fire department societies are responsible for day-to-day management of their fire departments, and operational guidance to their volunteers. They also advise the RDN of their capital improvement requirements.

Fire department volunteers are paged from their regular work and family lives to respond to emergencies. All phone numbers in this section are for non-emergency calls only.

Areas Without Fire Protection

Fire protection is provided throughout most of the RDN, but some areas outside of municipal boundaries do not have fire protection. If you have a question about fire protection in your area, please contact RDN Mapping Services at 250-390-6538.

Community Wildfire Protection Plans

With the assistance of its fire departments, the RDN has developed a number of Community Wildfire Protection Plans. These plans examine the local risk of wildfires. The Emergency Planning section of the RDN website provides background on the Community Wildfire Protection used by fire departments in RDN Electoral Areas.
