Morden Colliery Regional Trail - Nanaimo River Bridge Development

Morden Colliery Regional Trail - Nanaimo River Bridge Development

The Regional District of Nanaimo has completed preliminary land assessments and design work for two planned multi-use bridges (for pedestrian, cyclist, wheelchair and equestrian use) over the Nanaimo River within the Morden Colliery Regional Trail (MCRT) corridor. A feasibility study, completed by Herold Engineering in September 2014, was approved by the Regional Board on October 8, 2014 at which time a resolution was carried to proceed with design development for two steel-truss bridges.

A multi-use crossing over the Nanaimo River within the MCRT has been noted as a priority item in several RDN planning documents as well as active transportation studies, including the Area 'A' Community Trails Study (2001), the Regional Parks and Trails Plan (2005).

A public Open House was held on December 2, 2015 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Cedar Heritage Centre in Cedar. RDN residents were invited to attend the public event to receive information and to share ideas regarding the proposed bridge development. Park staff were on hand to present bridge design and accessibility options, to answer questions and to receive feedback.

A Public Survey was available at the Open House and online from December 1, 2015 to February 1, 2016. Thank you to everyone who participated.

If you were not able to attend the Open House, please review the information panels below:
