Consulting Opportunity - Chief Election Officer
The Regional District of Nanaimo is looking for a qualified and experienced individual or firm to conduct the local government election to be held on October 20, 2018.
The Chief Election Officer must fulfill the power and duties set out in the Local Government Act. In order to be considered for appointment as the Chief Election Officer, the successful individual or firm must:- Have direct experience as a Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer or significant experience as a Presiding Election Official (PEO) at the local government level in British Columbia; other types of election experience (such as Provincial Government or Federal Government) may be considered.
- Have knowledge of the Local Government Act and be able to read and interpret legislation.
- Have experience with hiring and managing election staff.
- Be extremely organized and deadline and detail oriented.
- Possess strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Being familiar with automated voting machines would be considered an asset.
The Regional District of Nanaimo provides two Advance Voting Opportunities (5 Polling Stations on the first Advance Voting Opportunity and 2 Polling Stations on the second), and has nine Polling Stations on General Voting Day. The Regional District also offers mail ballot voting. The Chief Election Officer will administer the election for the Regional District's 7 Electoral Areas as well as the Gabriola Island Local Trust Area of the Islands Trust. Access will be provided to Regional District staff for administrative support.
