Approved Recreation and Culture Grants for 2017

At the December 12, 2017 Regional District of Nanaimo Board meeting, Directors supported a total of 13 grant funding recommendations for a variety of recreation and culture focused projects. The supported projects will be carried out by community groups in both District 69 and Electoral Area A. The combined value of the grants was $26,123.

Those receiving grant funding included:

  • Yellow Point Drama Group received $4,800 in Electoral Area 'A' Grants in Aid funding.
  • District 69 Youth Recreation Grant totaling $8,700, recipients included: Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association, Oceanside Track and Field Club, Qualicum Beach Elementary School, Qualicum & District Curling Club.
  • District 69 Community Recreation Grant totaling $12,623, recipients included: Arrowsmith Agricultural Association, Corcan Meadowood Residents Association, Errington War Memorial Hall Association, Julian Packer and Players, Parksville Curling Club, Oceanside Floor Curling Club, Qualicum Weavers and Spinners Guild, and Forward House Community Society.
These grant programs are in place to provide funds to organizations requesting financial assistance to offer recreation or culture focused programs, special events or projects within their respective communities. The Electoral Area A Grants program is available to organizations serving Electoral Area A residents and deadlines for applications are September and February. The District 69 Grants are distributed three times a year; in January, April and September, and are available for groups serving the communities of Qualicum Beach, Parksville, and Electoral Areas E,F,G and H.
