Notice - Campfire Ban Lifted
Campfire Ban Lifted at Descanso Bay Regional Park
Effective September 13, 2018, the Regional District of Nanaimo is permitting campfires at the Descanso Bay Regional Park campground. This action reflects the Gabriola Fire Department's notice that campfires are now permitted on Gabriola Island. The lifting of the ban on campfires follows the rescinding of the fire prohibition across the South Coast by the BC Wildfire Service Coastal Fire Centre, BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources. The public is reminded that outside of the two designated RDN campgrounds, fires of any kind are always prohibited in RDN regional and community parks and trails.
The Regional District's overall ban on smoking in all RDN parks and trails has also been lifted.
To report a wildfire call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on most cellular networks.
For updates on conditions at RDN parks and trails, including the status of campfire bans at the RDN's two campgrounds, visit www.rdn.bc.ca/fireban.
