WellSmart Workshops

Cranberry Hall
Tuesday October 14, 6:30 – 8:00 PM
1555 Morden Road, South Wellington

Learn how to keep your well in safe running order! wellSMART workshops will provide you with an opportunity to ask questions of local well drillers and pump installers, the Vancouver Island Health Authority, the BC Ministry of Environment, and North Island Labs. North Island labs will be present with sample bottles for residents to take home for testing, and will provide residents with a 10% discount for well water testing.

As your own 'water manager', it is your job to be wellSMART and properly care for your well in order to protect the health of your family, friends, community, and environment. Your well is the most important asset on your property and without an adequate water supply, your property value may decline. Taking proper care of your well may protect your investment and extend the operational life of your well.

Call 250-248-3252 or 1888 828 2069 to register! Contact us at [email protected] with any questions.

Emergency Social Services Orientation
Category: RDN Community Event
Date: Oct 16, 2014
Time: 7:00 pm—8:00 pm
Location: North Cedar Fire Department

Local Volunteers Needed..!

In the southern Electoral Areas, the RDN has designated the Cedar Community Hall and the Cranberry Hall as emergency Reception Centers, where evacuees can go to receive short term (typically 72 hrs) assistance with basic needs. But a very critical element is missing...trained volunteers to operate the site when activated during an emergency.

When disaster strikes and a Reception Center is opened, the best possible and most invested volunteers come from right within that community. Cedar and Extension have distinct community identities and local residents who become ESS volunteers are optimal. Their familiar faces may be the ones that you see welcoming you at the door, handing you a cup of coffee, doing registration and referral for services and helping to streamline the recovery process.

How can I get involved..?

Attend an Information Session:

The Information Session will be held at: North Cedar Fire Department
(2100 Yellow Pt. Rd.)
on: October 16th, 2014
Meeting will start at: 7:00 pm—8:00 pm

There are no special skills, talents or experience required to be a volunteer. Free online and group training sessions available.

Attend a workshop and learn how to protect the environment, your community's health and save money! Participants go home with a free SepticSmart Kit.

All information is general in nature and is not intended to be used as a substitute for appropriate professional advice.

Call 250-248-3252 or 1-888-828-2069 to pre-register for all workshops and reserve your spot.

Be Earthquake Ready 2014

It Could Happen Here...

We live in an active earthquake region. In fact, BC averages approximately 1,200 earthquakes per year. Most are too small to be felt, but an earthquake capable of causing structural damage is expected to occur somewhere in the province about once every decade. There is a one in three probability that a major, damaging earthquake will occur in the next 50 years. We never know when "the big one" may happen, but we know one will occur in our area—its just a matter of time.
